Day
4: Amber |
 |
 |
Daytripping
“Alan was my date, and we went with Heidi
and Dave and Jeremy and Laura to an awesome
beach where we went snorkeling. We saw some
Mayan ruins, sculpture gardens and ruins on
a cliff. It was beautiful, but not very not
‘datey.’ The situation was very
datey, but I have a boyfriend and Alan has a
girlfriend.” |
 |
 |
So,
no hookups for you? “Like I
said, I have a boyfriend, so…technically…I’m
not allowed to be interested. But even not technically,
a lot of the guys here are not my type. Guys
who shave their legs, wax their eyebrows…any
guy who spends more time getting ready than
I do is no good.” |

Pool
party flashback (and flash front):
“Everyone was fairly low-key all day,
probably because we were all exhausted from
that outrageous pool party the day before. That
was nuts. There were tons of people in the pool,
everyone making out everywhere, wet T-shirt
contests, hot-body contests. Everybody from
the group and a lot of people from the outside.
I know Alan took a shower with three girls.
It was very intense for him.” |

 |
Winner
of the day/Loser of the day: “I
gotta say Alan’s the big winner of the
week with that whole shower situation.
I think he’s the biggest winner and
the biggest loser. He’s a big winner because
he had a blast and had the time of his life,
and a loser because he’s done things that
he doesn’t necessarily want everyone to
know, but they’re going to know anyway.”

Drama
in black and white: “Sky’s
going through a lot. And I think there’s
kind of a racial drama going on with her…I
think Sky was very attracted to Jeremy. But
I think she feels pressure and feels that everyone
thinks she should be attracted to Paul,
because they’re both African-American.
I think she’s feeling racism, but not
in the sense of anyone thinking ‘oh, black
people are bad,’ but just more subtle
issues, like people automatically assuming she
wouldn’t be attracted to a white guy.”

Amber
alert: “Actually, I’ve
been the center of a lot of drama. Yesterday
there was suddenly all this commotion, people
saying I was a spy for the filmmakers, that
I wasn’t really a college student. Everyone
was asking why do I have my own room? Why do
I have a lock on my door when they don’t?
What’s different about me? I tried to
explain to people that I’m writing a column
about our experiences and that’s why I’m
talking to the filmmakers all the time. Finally
Rich, the movie’s director, called us
all together to explain my job as a sex columnist
and my role as a kind of facilitator. After
that, people who had no interest in talking
to me before are like buddy-buddy with me. And
that makes me think there are a lot of people
here who are just attention-hungry and very
fake.” |
